We drove over 5,400 miles (not including 2 ferries and an entire day on a golf cart), visited Lexington, KY, the Outer Banks, Bald Head Island, Wilmington, NC, the Florida panhandle, New Orleans, Austin and Frisco, TX, and Albuquerque, NM, and saw lots of sorely missed family and friends.

Check out the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday of this week:
From the 60’s to the 30’s in one day. Pretty rude, it’s beautiful all week and cold over the weekend…

To my Little Miss,
Goodness! February and March flew by. Every day brings something new. People kept telling us that would happen. It seems like you went directly from random babble to your current state of happy, interactive, giggling squirminess overnight. If we put you down you’re suddenly somewhere else and well pleased with yourself.
You’ll roll to grab your giraffe (Mr. Sparkles) or pivot to munch on the playmat puppy. You smile and giggle when I appear, even if it’s been mere minutes since you saw me last. “Flying Baby!” is one of your favorite things. Even when you’re upset, one quick hoist over the head and we’ve at least managed a smile. Other favorites include: “Wheels on the Bus” (with Porter-specific lyrics), Ms Kanga, the playmat, your yummy little fingers, and cuddles with Daddy. A combination of “Wheels on the Bus” and momma seems to be the cure for most of life’s ills so far. Right now you’re snuggled on my chest in the wrap, sleepily quiet from another doctor visit.
And, oh, how you look like your daddy. Between the “there’s Mama!” smiles and Peter’s facial expressions, you’ve pretty much got me pegged. Then there’s your staccato laugh and the very serious storytelling and that time at breakfast where you broke into hysterical giggling at something beyond our comprehension. Have we mentioned yet how awesome you are?
I went back to work on your 3 month birthday (a Thursday)… and then promptly called in sick the next day. That was a short week. You spent my first full weeks back to work with Leo and Elaine. Every morning you’d smile at Leo like the two of you had grand plans. Then we’d pick you up after work all sleepy and well pleased with life. We cannot thank them enough for that gift. Leo was the first person to hear you laugh – a pretty awesome treat you were generous to share.
Grandma Porter then blessed us with two weeks of care while we got back into the swing of things at work. You got lots of quality Grandma time, and of course lots of pictures. You even helped Grandma cook plenty of meals while we caught up on work late into the evening.
It is quite a treat watching you interact with those close to us. You spent two workdays with the very busy Fogles and came back with an entirely new vocabulary. Every Tuesday at bible study and dinner we get to watch you hold court with the Fogles and Michelle. Then on Sundays you smile at our friends and help make some new ones. This month we also got to hang out in Denver with friends for a weekend. We are constantly amazed at how easily you adapt to new people and places.
I was happily discussing a project with a colleague at work this week when a friend broke in, “If you really want to see her happy and smiling, just ask her about that wonderful baby girl of hers. She must be the happiest little thing on the planet.” That’s you in a nutshell, Nomi, including your ability to make mommy and daddy grin from ear to ear.

And, of course, you now have a name little one. We hope you like it.
Happy four months, Naomi.
